Welcome I'm Stevie and I am a wedding and portrait photographer in St. Louis, MO. I love people in love, a dry sense of humor and a good Cabernet. I don't eat meat but will never turn down dark chocolate.  I love detail shots, a first dance and fancy cakes. And shoes. Always the shoes.

I talk too much. Read on. Comment profusely. :)

Shams and Shazia booked me to shoot their wedding the month before it happened. That's right, kids. One month. Talk about your super-planners. Did I mention that they were also planning this whole shebang from Los Angeles? I can't make this up! And for as elaborate as their celebrations were, they put everyone they knew in charge of something and the result was nothing short of fabulous!

The night before the wedding was the Mehndi ceremony where the couple are feed sweets by various family and friends all to wish them well. There's also a rather feisty bargaining for the bride by the ladies! These girls essentially held the groom hostage until they got the appropriate payment from the groom's family and friends. It was intense!

Shams and Shazia got married at the Daar ul Islam Mosque in a short but lovely ceremony. So many people came and the clothing was beyond beautiful and colorful! After the ceremony, there was a lunch for the guests and the couple and I were off for some portraits in Queeny park and the Arch grounds. I just loved how Shams and Shazia were attached to each other once they were married. Even just walking along to our next photo locale, they strolled hand in hand and only had eyes for each other. Be still my heart! You just don't see that kind of sweetness everyday, or even at every wedding! I was so happy to be there and document it!

After a short break, they each went back to change and get ready for the reception at the Grand Hall at Union Station. Oh yeah, there's another dress! A deep crimson one, at that. Not that everything Shazia wore wasn't stunning but this one takes the cake for gorgeousness. I made sure to get some portraits and details of her after she was glammed up. And Shams was quite the catch, himself, for the evening. Shazia's mom did all the flowers for the decor and the whole place looked perfect! Check out that arch!

The reception was filled with amazing food, warm speeches, and fond memories of each of them. We even got to sneak out at the end of the night to get a few shots in front of Union Station all lit up. As I was leaving, they were taking a walk around the fountains outside enjoying one last quiet moment of their beautiful day. What a way to end the night!

I'm not sure if I had more fun AT this wedding or EDITING this wedding. Seriously, what a fun group! And the chemistry between Layne and Terry was simply magic. Its one of those weddings where you have a hard time moving from image to image because they're just so darn great together, you want to spend oodles of time on every one. Laynie was a beautiful bride and Terry just lit up when she was around. So happy their wedding day was finally here.

Thank you thank you to Kelly Park for shooting with me! Your talent blows me away!
And thanks to Rachel with Luck You Productions for making the day run smoothly. :)

Enjoy the slideshow!

Its so appropriate that Sex and the City 2 comes out this week because this wedding has some of the most style I've seen in a long time. Miranda had 3 dresses, 2 cakes and 1 ultra-fabulous pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes that Carrie would be proud of. A girl after my own shoe-loving heart!

The wedding and reception were held at Ces and Judy's in Frontenac and had beautiful event lighting courtesy of Exclusive Events. The flowers all came from Petals Galore and were there ever! All the details of this day came together perfectly for Miranda and Jonny and having their family and friends there to celebrate made it all the more special.

Miranda gets gorgeous from Lisa.

I'm so excited for this year's weddings. I have some stellar clients and I just know that each wedding I shoot is going to be a reflection of each of their individual styles. This day was no exception. Jessica picked the 'Tiffany Blue' color for her wedding and ran with it! I loved all the ways she incorporated little dashes of color here and there. The ceremony was at The Journey church on Hanley Road and along with gorgeous flowers from Tina Barrera, Jessica and Tim's cool sense of style and class really made for an unforgettable event. Tim even serenaded his new bride with a song from their first date! So cute! Say it with me "Awwwwww.....". Having a reception at the Coronado Ballroom helps, too!

Congratulations Jessica and Tim! I hope you guys enjoyed Disney on your honeymoon!

Thank you thank you to Dan Watkins for his super second shooting skills! See more of their wedding day in the slideshow!

First wedding of the year belongs to the gorgeous Jenny and her perfect match Greg. Jenny works for Orlando Gardens so you KNOW her reception is going to be something perfect. Turns out, the whole day was perfect. Sometimes I can appreciate an April withOUT showers. :)

Thanks to Karen for lending her talent to shoot with me!

You winter wedding folks continue to amaze me. 14 degrees outside with a -2 windchill and you're ALLLL for going outside to get great pictures. Awesome. Never a problem for me. I get to wear pants and a wool coat and gloves and a scarf... :) Not so awesome for short-dressed bridesmaids. You girls are troopers and there never were truer friends to the bride. That being said, Paige and Chris got a super cold wedding day but still managed to rock it without complaint! Paige got beautiful courtesy of the always-fabulous Danielle Erb, not to mention they had a gorgeous ceremony in St. Charles and stunning reception at the Ritz-Carlton. Ah... i love my clients. And their freezing bridesmaids. Thanks for the opportunity to freeze along side.

And thanks to Von for her stellar second eye!

So here I am cleaning up the last of the 2009 weddings and playing catch-up after the crazy holidays and New Year's out of town (more on that later!) and it occurs to me how little I utilize this blog to let my readers get to know me. I'm surely not one for resolutions of any kind, much less the New Year kind, but I've decided to make a general best-effort in 2010 to find more balance in my life. Work-life balance, Salad-cookies balance, and definitely Wedding-Stevie balance on the blog. I can surely share more of myself here and will be making a conscious effort to blog more often and about more than just the 'workie' stuff. Yeah. :) (Oh and if you want a head-start, go see my Facebook page or follow me on Twitter.)

Onward!! (this is the work part, ha.)

I discovered a new awesome place to shoot at Wendi and Cliff's wedding! They had their reception at the Moonrise Hotel in the Loop and what a cool place it is!  Wendi and Cliff had a small, intimate wedding and reception and the Moonrise did a great job with the food and atmosphere for their gathering. And lets not leave out the Piper Palm House and Sister's Flowers for their lovely part in the day. Beautiful job as always and I think Wendi and Cliff got just the day they dreamed of. So glad I could be there to capture it!

I like to think I'm organized, right? I keep things in file cabinets and my email has endless filters and folders to keep me on track. But one thing I'm not and wish I was: a planner. I try so hard to plan things out and have it come out nice but for some reason, friends, it just doesn't work that way for me most of the time. But Sarah and Brent.... Oh Sarah and Brent are planners! These lovely birds planned their day so well and EVEN met early in the day (LOOOOOVE that!) so that there would be plenty of time for pictures of them and their bridal party! And they planned said meeting at one of my favorite hotels downtown!  So somewhere in our afternoon of toodling around St. Louis for fabulous pictures and having a beautiful Catholic/Jewish ceremony at the Catholic Student Center at Wash U and an even lovlier reception at the Soulard Preservation Hall, all their planning paid off and we have the day you see below.

Flowers: Wildflowers
Hotel: Westin
Ceremony: Catholic Student Center at Wash U
Reception: Soulard Preservation Hall

And Thank You to Jen for being my right hand gal for the day. Rocked my world yet again!

SEEN is an annual local photography competition in St. Louis sponsored by Studio Altius in Maplewood and I was lucky enough this year to be chosen as a finalist! They picked two of my absolute favs from this year and I am so lucky to be on display in the studio alongside such AMAZING local talent! Last night was the big opening gala and awards ceremony aaaaaannnndddd both of my photos placed! SO EXCITING!!! I received 2nd and 3rd place in the Wedding category and I couldn't be happier! It was an awesome show and if you've got time, stop on by the studio to check them out! The whole show will be on display throughout December.

I love fall weddings. Its really the best time in St. Louis to get married and I have to say that even with the questionable weather we've had lately, the colors and brightness of the season really make up for it. Candice and Ryan got married at Cedar Lake Farm, which is also fabulous in the fall, and although it got a smidge chilly at the end of the night, the day couldn't have been warmer with love and happyness. Yes. Happy-ness. Candice was just glowing and Ryan was just ready to see his bride! Perfect.

Uh, and be sure to check out Ryan's stellar MJ impression at the reception. Nailed it!

Thanks to my second Kate for 'chillin' with me!

Oh, they were ready for this. Jenny and Greg came to their engagment session full on READY to make the magic happen. And happen it did, my friends, because when my clients are this flippin' fun to be around, you can't help but be mystified. We had an awesome time lurking around the Arch grounds and in the many alleyways of the Landing seeking out great light, a textured element or just somewhere to snuggle. Get it! ♥

Ok I know I promised more on the couple that modeled for us at the Jessica Claire Workshop some time ago so I'm sticking to my promise and ready to deliver! Gena and Jeff were the loveliest models a girl could ask for. Although they've been married for 4 years already (!) they were just as sweet and cuddly as if it were their own wedding day. We got a chance to get some time with the Gena and Jeff to do portraits around the BEAUTIFUL wedding scene you saw earlier, and this is what came out.

I really had the best time, learned so much and got some fantastic new ideas and motivation and inspiration for my own work. Its making me think about the way I do most things in my business and how I can improve and put out nothing but the best for my clients. Because ya'll are my favorite. :)  Enjoy.

I love The Garden. Its one of my favorite places to shoot. Cindy and Kris had a small ceremony in the Boxwood Garden there for their wedding and it was a perfect day. Small ceremonies also allot more time for portraits! Score! I think we covered the whole place while we were there. And then got a few minutes outside the 9th Street Abbey before the reception. Excellent orange wall. Loves it. :)

And thanks to Chad for shooting with me!

Wow! This was my first photography workshop and I have to say that I fully believe I picked a great one. Jessica Claire is one of the best in the business and what a phenomenal opportunity to get to learn a little about what makes her tick. And what better place to have a wedding workshop than beautiful Orange County, CA! It was my first trip to the west coast and it surely did not disappoint. I'll have to go back someday and get the full SoCal experience.

We started in the "classroom" which turned out to be her home studio in Ladera Ranch, CA. She gave a great presentation on branding, marketing, workflow and mistakes and successes in her career. A short break for lunch then it was off to the wedding! Jessica set up a mock-wedding so we could follow her around for a typical wedding day and she could show us how she operates and talk about what she's doing without interrupting a real wedding day. How cool is that!?

The details of this setup were ah-MAAAH-zing! Something you don't see every weekend. :) We all had an opportunity to shoot at will and capture some of these details to inspire us and our own brides.

Oh and there was also a gorgeous couple and 'bridal party' to boot! More on that later....

For now, Check out some of these CRAZY COOL details!

A wonderful thing happened in a little town called Perryville, MO. Two of the most darling people you've ever met had the most perfect wedding day you could ever imagine. And I got to be there. Beth and Scott were the epitome of happiness and fun and their friends and family only added to their excitement. Uh, it also helps that they were up for anything with photos and worked it FIERCE. uh huh. My job rules. Check the awesomeness below.

Thanks to my trusty second Dan Watkins for the 2nd shooter expertise. Road trip! Thanks Dan!

July is my favorite month. And not JUST because its my birthday month... Ok, mostly because its my birthday month. But also because its July for me means that its really and truly summer. One could argue that June is also considered 'summer', but I hold out for the hot and muggy that is July to signal the start of the best season ever. Sound crazy? maybe. I like the heat - I'd much rather be hot than cold - and there's nothing better to me than stepping outside after being A/C chilled all day to a nice warm 'hug' of sun and summer air.

I think Lucy and Craig would agree that July is a perfectly lovely month as well. An especially lovely month to get married, too! AND their wedding just happened to be the day after my birthday! Score! I loved every second of shooting this wedding and all the little details and touches that were all about them. And color me 12 shades of green with envy at their honeymoon in PARIS! AYKM!? :) loves it.

Thanks for letting me hang out with your awesomeness for the day!  And a big thanks to Sharon for shooting with me and doing an awesome job!

Sometimes things work out for the best. The first time I scheduled Beth and Scott's engagement session, it stormed like crazy! We had our heart set on going downtown so 'under cover' photos just weren't in the cards. Lucky for us! The alternative turned out to be one of the nicest evenings downtown I've had in a while. Gorgeous light, good temps and a snuggy and cute couple to photograph. What more could you ask for? oh ya.. the pictures. :)

See you in August, my darlings! Can't wait!

Are we all enjoying the hot? :) I wish for it every year right about February but then end up regretting it when the 90's and humidity roll around. Thank you, St. Louis weather.

On a happier note, and back when the weather wasn't so unbearable, I got to shoot Becky and Dan's wedding! So excited for this one because not only are Becky and Dan so into each other and quite the lovely pair, but their reception was held at one of my favorite venues, the St. Louis Artists' Guild. Its such a beautiful place and the park that it is in had gorgeous evening light to work in.

Thanks for having me there to hang out and get great images of your day, guys! And thanks to Dan Watkins for shooting with me and rockin' it out. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!  HA! :)

Happy Memorial Day!! Don't forget to thank a service person today for their support and service to our great country and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice so we can live free. :)

A treat for this Monday holiday - Engagement photos of Cindy and Kris! We met up last weekend when the weather was just perfect for some outdoor photos and running around Forest Park. Cindy is a sci-fi girl, like myself, and we were going on about the great new Star Trek movie out now! The young Capt. Kirk is way hot. :) Poor Kris was a good sport about it and we got some great shots. Thanks for hanging out with me, guys! Can't wait for your wedding in September!

Oh the rain! The April weather was surely not nice to us but I wouldn't dream of letting that stand in the way of fabulous wedding pictures. Case in point: Marcie and Andy. I was shooting for KP on this wedding and wouldn't you know it, the rains came! Lucky for us their stay was short and we got outside for some awesome portraits to go along with the beautiful wedding and reception. Thanks for having me along Kelly!
