Oh, hello October. And thanks for EATING ALL MY TIME. :) Love you anyway.
I'm terribly behind on my blogging so I'll makeup time by showing you this little darling. Oliver has the proud distinction of sharing a birthday with my husband, Josh. He's also the littlest kid of Josh's cousin, Jessica. So he's my husband's cousin's son, which means he's my second cousin-in-law, right? Ha. Did you get all that?
Anyway, Oliver just turned ONE this September and we took some family photos to mark the occasion. He's been walking for a few months now (over-achiever) so keeping up with him seems to be a full time job! Kudos to you, mom and dad! Love your beautiful family!
p.s. Its also my nephew's FIRST birthday and my big brother's birthday today! Happy Birthday guys! Love you!

I didn't even recognize her when she answered the hotel room door. It had been a while since I'd seen Monica and Bill for their engagements but it wasn't THAT long and SURELY I remember what she looked like. I was expecting a curly blonde when I showed up that day, but when a sleek, gorgeous brunette opened the door, I was taken aback! As I told her how great she looked with the darker locks, both she and her stylist in the room said 'Thank you' and it made me laugh.
I spent the rest of the day laughing with this awesome group. Bill and Monica have a stellar group of friends and family and I know that having them all there was just the icing on the New Orleans Saints cake for them. Don't forget to check the shoes - no heels for this girl! She managed to find white and gold 'Brooks' running shoes! (Brooks being her new last name and all.) How perfect?
Side note: Hello, dark stormy clouds. Thank you for giving me some awesome dimension to the sky for portrait time. And for not raining on us until we got to the reception. You're the best. :)
Enjoy!
Oh, and I can't forget the slideshow!

No, really. I made this. Ok, so its no major accomplishment to many but I'd never made jam before. I decided I wanted to give this a try after realizing that late summer fruit would be shortly gone and peaches were currently at a pretty good price. I called my authority on all things kitchen, my mother, and invited her over for a lazy Sunday of simmering jam and rented movies. I remember my mom making jams of all different kinds when I was a kid and thinking it was magic that the fruit just allofasudden was jam. It was the magic jam moment! I climbed up on a chair by the stove and peeked into the big pot to see this glossy surface and bubbly texture while she stirred the last few minutes. And it smelled so good, I had to physically restrain myself from reaching in for a taste!
Aren't they lovely?

So I told her I was going to document this process and blog it. She looked at me like I had 3 heads. "It'll be so fun! Our little jam-teaching project!" I promised as we pulled out little mason jars from 1972. Seriously, I'm pretty sure they were that old. The box was still sealed up but if you know my mom, it was entirely possible she'd have these at her house.

We set about cutting up the fruit and general 'mom-and-me' chatting. And for the record, I didn't make her cut them all up. I did some of it, I just had to be the one manning the camera.

Into the pot it goes! With more sugar than should be allowed in one batch of ANYTHING. I'm not kidding when I say there was probably 5 cups or better. You have a gym membership, right? :) Put some heat to those babies and let 'er go! (Hi mom!)

Now the kicker here is to be patient. A few good stirs and you just have to let it do its thing. Something about the sugar mixing with the pectin in the fruit and adding the heat will thicken it into spreadable goodness. Whatever. You have to WAIT FOR IT.
The start. Lookin' all sugary and solid. Oh and I threw a piece of split vanilla bean in there, too. Just for some flavor depth. Because that's what vanilla bean lends. DEPTH. That, and fancy little black specks that make people go 'ooh, vanilla bean'.

While we waited, we enjoyed a few tasty beverages. Mom had made a peach sangria and brought me a bottle. The Sprite was to make it fizzy. It went very nice with the peachy aromas floating around my kitchen as the fruit bubbled away.

So we chilled out and chatted and watched a movie in the living room. Every once in a while, one of us would hop up to give the fruit a good stir to avoid burning or sticking on the bottom. I have to say that what I thought would be endless hours of waiting for the magic moment of 'Jam' actually went by fairly quickly. Before I knew it, this happened.

Isn't that just the most perfect jewel toned peach thing you've ever seen??? Say yes.
Holy cow, I've made jam! I fished out the vanilla bean pods and ladled the sticky sweetness into our prepared jars to cool.

Soon the little telltale 'pop' of 6 canning lids promised a sealed and shareable treat. And a photoshoot of full jars.

This one is Josh's. "You should stack them." Mkay. Here you go, baby.

So pretty! I can still see my mom shaking her head at my 'jam jar photo session'. :)

I'll definitely be doing this again. It wasn't nearly as tedious or time-consuming as I thought it would be. And I can add it to my list of 'Cooking stuff Mom taught me'. I love spending time with her anyway, but having her teach me this is a great memory I'll always have. Thanks, Mom, for coming to my own kitchen, in my own home and making new memories with me. You're my favorite mom ever! :)

Oh MY can I tell you all how ready I am to post another wedding? Cuz I am. And you are going to be so stoked to see this one because its simply gorgeous. When I first met Christy and Steve, I knew they were a great match for me. Steve does some photography on his own and we ended up in some great conversation talking shop. He also attends Logan College of Chiropractic and will be graduating in
December. I can tell you from experience that there is nothing like
having a good adjustment after a long wedding weekend. And Christy is so darn stylish, she has her own jewelery company! A girl after my own heart.
After a gorgeous and emotional wedding at Sts. Peter and Paul in Soulard, we hopped on down the Arch ground for some afternoon pictures and finished up at Logan College's Purser Center for the reception. All the details that went into this day were amazing. The damask pattern with a green accent was so classy and tied into everything throughout the day. The bridal party was wicked fun to hang out with and worked it like pros. Christy and Steve, it seemed, just couldn't stop smiling. No one would doubt that they were both living the best day of their lives. I love when a couple is so comfortable and happy just to be together. It was wonderful to be part of it!
I also had the distinct pleasure of working with the one and only Michael of Gebb's Wedding Films for this wedding. On his 24th birthday no less. What a trooper! The same-day-edit he did for Christy and Steve at the reception was breathtaking!
And another thanks goes to my sweetie second shooter Kate. You rocked it, girl! Thanks for your hard work. :)
Oh and for you kids who can't get enough, enjoy the slideshow!

I generally don't submit weddings to magazines much. It seems like they all have different rules and formats and ways they want files and, honestly, I just don't have a lot of time to figure it out. But after seeing this little page in the most recent St. Louis Bride magazine, I think my tune might be changing...
I know what you're thinking. "Geez Stevie, way to be a couple months LATE on posting! This issue has been out since June!" And you'd be right. Sad face. And I do have a paltry excuse for waiting: I couldn't find an issue. REALLY! I live in the outcrops of St. Charles county and apparently the delivery didn't happen out here until almost a month after it came out. But its here now and in my possession so you all get to see it finally. Yay!
If you happen to pick up a copy of the Fall/Winter 2010 St. Louis Bride magazine, peruse yourself on over to page 40 to see Jenny and Greg's springtime event. Oh how I love these kids! And a special thanks to Jenny for the request to submit the photos! The magazines are going to be soooo sick of me now! :)
